Erin's Corner: January 2017

January began at a full run, with the great fireworks at Heritage Park on New Year’s Eve! It was exciting that the Stony Plain Constituency had been chosen to host the second stakeholders meeting on the tour to discuss the upcoming provincial budget for 2017 with MLA Joe Ceci. We were asked to provide 15 community leaders in business, agriculture and volunteerism. The round table discussion was excellent, with ideas on how to keep costs limited for the upcoming year, while maintain and improving on services that the Province offers. I would like to thank all involved for their valuable input into this session and encourage everyone in the constituency to submit their feedback online . I also wish to thank the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum for accommodating us for the meeting. The venue was perfect!

I was delighted to present a cheque to President Duncan Schoepp and Executive Director David Fielhaber for the Community Facility enhancement to the Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum. While at the museum, we got a small tour of the work being completed to enhance Legacy Street. The museum is so important for the region, and as always a huge thank you to the volunteers that help keep and maintain our history.

I joined Trevor Horne and several other MLA’s this month for a tour of the Cargill Plant in Spruce Grove which supplies burger patties to all McDonald’s in Canada. There was great discussion regarding the other products that Cargill supplies as well as tracking systems, food safety, and stakeholder engagement in our communities. And we got to help check quality control on a burger straight off the production line before heading to Spruce Grove McDonald’s for lunch. Proud to have such a good corporate neighbour in the Tri Region.

2016 has been a challenging year for our communities. I am certain that 2017 will be a much more positive year for all of us, as our economy is looking brighter, and there are only a couple of months to go before spring!

Have a great February!
